International Marine Radio Licence
The Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) marine radio licence is an International Marine Radio Licence and is required if you are intending to sail overseas or entering in to an organised yacht race, such as the Sydney to Hobart.
Thanks so much for having this online. It was much easier than I thought and it didn’t take that long either, just a couple of hours of study and good value as well.
Marine Radio Candidates’ Please Note:
You can apply for either the Short Range (VHF) (SROCP) or Long Range (LROCP) licence. We recommend the LROCP because the cost is the same for either licence. Neither are difficult to obtain however if you complete only the SROCP and need to obtain the LROCP for some reason in the future (i.e. sailing overseas or sailing in a club yacht race etc) then you have to pay the course fees again.
The Office of Maritime Communications (OMC) (who issue the licence) do not have an upgrade facility. It is either one licence or the other.
Please also enrol early. The OMC state on their website that the issue of the licence can take up to 15 working days are the exam is completed. For additional information please use this link: marine radio licence
